On a Friday afternoon, Coach Randy McClure began his heartfelt story of his journey here in Campbell. “I was a pre-med student, and I was gonna teach for one year. I was gonna go back to medical school, but after one year, I found what I was born to do.” Through his many experiences as an educator, a coach, and a helping hand, he has found joy in teaching science and basketball. McClure recalls the previous building structure of what used to be F.T. Wills High School, with the eminent tiger mascot still painted on the walls of our math/counselor hallway. McClure was 23 when he had first come to teach, but stayed a coach and teacher at Campbell for 39 more years. He retired in 2016, but continues to teach two classes even today. When asked for his secret to balance, he reveals: “You can do a lot of things; You can eat an elephant one bite at a time.” McClure has indeed held firm to his beliefs. Apart from school, he is an associate master at his church and went to the basketball game against South Cobb while his youngest kid was born! If anyone deserves a relaxing vacation, it would be our three-times teacher of the year Randy McClure. We hope he enjoys his upcoming excursion with his wife this spring.
