Many people have heard Mrs. Mccully’s name around the school, specifically in relation to prom and SGA activities, yet not as many truly know her. Most people don’t know why she does what she does or how she got to where she is today, which is what we set out to change by making her our Teacher of the Month. We chose our first Teacher of the Month to be Mrs. Mccully because of her continuous efforts to make the school the best place it can be and her unwavering dedication to the students of Campbell High School. This month she has been managing the planning of prom as well as Hoopcoming alongside her teaching and supervising of SGA activities, and we believe her efforts should not be overlooked.
Mrs. Mccully started her teaching journey at Georgia Highland and then finished her education at Kennesaw State University. During this time, she also did student teaching at Kennesaw Mountain. She also taught at a variety of schools before coming to Campbell High School, which is what has helped her be so outstanding here. She has worked at Osborne High School, Floyd Middle School teaching 7th and 8th grade, and Atlanta Public High. However, something that few people know about her was that she was an instructional coach in Cobb County and through this program she got her master’s degree from Baldos State. This means that she helped teachers learn how to be the best educators they could be, especially in improving their use of literacy and reading standards in instruction. Finally, after 2 years, she realized that she missed teaching and connecting to students, so she came to Campbell where she has continued to do so.
Mrs. Mccully has been at our school for 7 years, and within 2 years of teaching here she took over SGA. At first, the club only managed homecoming. Now, she has managed to bring prom and senior activities under the SGA umbrella and has brought back hoopcoming. Nevertheless, she says it was all thanks to the students and faculty’s help, especially former-students Ridei, who was the 1st President when Mrs. Mccully took over and who drafted the bylaws, as well as Peyton, who ratified the bylaws and created subgroups to make handling SGA more efficient. Without their help, we would not have the SGA or school we have today. Moreover, this year, alongside Mrs. Shinall, she has worked towards having our school’s SGA receive National SGA Membership and is about to publish an SGA newsletter to complete it. Overall, she says to remember that anyone can be an SGA member and encourages you to join. She continues to help inspire students and improve their education by being a teacher leader, meaning she takes on leadership roles in the school alongside teaching.
For all of her commitment to education and to our students, we chose her to be our teacher of the month. In fact, this is her second time getting a title like this, as only a couple months ago she was awarded Employee of the Month. About this, she says it’s a great honor and flattering, and she feels that its important for students to have a voice. She says she doesn’t need an award and that she truly enjoys teaching and loves to come to work every day, but that it is nice to be seen. All in all, we hope to have helped shed light to her achievements and contributions to Campbell, and if you see her in the hallways, we encourage you to thank her for her work and congratulate her for being Teacher of the Month.
